Crinkle Cookies

With their snowy icing sugar tops, crinkle cookies have an unmistakably festive feel to them. This simple recipe from Jane's Patisserie is incredibly easy to make so it's ideal for a Christmas baking session with the kids.

Whenever I see a crinkle cookie, I immediately want to grab one and shove it in my face because they have the most wonderful flavour and texture. I’ve made them for a few years now but have never published a recipe, which is slightly unfair of me I will admit. So here you go… the requests can stop now! These beauties are fun, full of delicious chocolate flavour, and are a great go-to bake for any cookie craving. These are perfect to make with your kids because you can all get a little messy, but also, they are just so tasty you will want to get involved!

MAKES: 18-20+
PREP TIME: 20 minutes
CHILL: 30 minutes
BAKE TIME: 10 minutes
COOL TIME: 30 minutes

INGREDIENTS

  • ESSENTIAL: 2-3 large baking trays
  • 75g cocoa powder
  • 225 caster sugar
  • 75ml sunflower oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 200g plain flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • pinch of sea salt
  • 50g icing sugar

METHOD

  1. In a large bowl, mix the cocoa powder, sugar, oil and eggs together. Add the flour, baking powder and salt and mix until a cookie dough is formed. Chill the bowl in the fridge for 30 minutes.

  2. Preheat the oven to 190ºC/170ºC fan and line 2–3 large baking trays with parchment paper.

  3. Add the icing sugar to a small bowl. Using a tablespoon, portion the cookies and roll each one into a ball. Then roll each one in the icing sugar. Place each cookie onto the lined trays, spaced well apart from each other.

NOTES:
If you just want a simple plain chocolate cookie, leave out rolling the cookies in icing sugar.

AIR FRY:
Line the base of your air fryer with a piece of parchment paper. Cook at 160.C for 10–12 minutes. Bake in the oven for 10 minutes. Leave to cool on the trays and then enjoy.

LASTS:
3+ days at room temperature.
