We are thrilled to announce that Penguin Random House was named Publisher of the Year at the 2024 Australian Book Industry Awards (ABIA).
Since their inception in 2001, the ABIAs have been celebrating the achievements of authors and publishers in bringing Australian books to readers.
After being reviewed and selected by a judging panel of industry professionals, the award winners were announced at a ceremony in Melbourne.
In addition to being named Publisher of the Year, two Penguin books also took home awards. A Life Song by Jane Godwin, illustrated by Anna Walker, won Children’s Picture Book of the Year (ages 0-6) and Wifedom by Anna Funder was awarded Biography Book of the Year.

Wifedom by Anna Funder
Adult readers will likely have heard of Anna Funder’s Wifedom, and if you haven’t read it yet, consider this your sign. Telling the story of George Orwell’s often-overlooked wife, Eileen O’Shaughnessy, the book is an eye-opening read. Finally bringing light to Eileen’s influence on Orwell, Funder’s book celebrates the unsung work of women everywhere. Compelling, original and fast-paced, it’s a genre-bending biography that will have you tearing through the pages.
Congratulations to everyone who contributed to the success of the winning and shortlisted books.
We'd also like to thank everyone who helped us achieve the Publisher of the Year honour. From authors to booksellers, Penguin employees to readers who celebrated these books, it was truly a group effort.
