Penguin Random House AU takes home two awards at the 2022 Shop! ANZ Retail Marketing Awards

Penguin Random House AU (PRH AU) took home one Gold and one Silver honour for our fan-favourite permanent penguin bookcase.

Last night, the 2022 Shop! ANZ Retail Marketing Awards Gala Dinner was held at Doltone House in Pyrmont to honour brands that went above and beyond with marketing in 2022.

Celebrating ‘creativity, innovation and inspiration across 25 Awards categories,’ the gala brought together brands and suppliers with exceptional retail marketing last year to celebrate and announce the winners.

Entries were judged by more than 90 industry representatives, all with a minimum of five years of experience in retail marketing.

PRH AU and our supplier, id8 Studio, proudly took home two awards for our permanent penguin bookcase display, winning Gold for the POP This Retail Industrial Design – Permanent Display award and Silver for the Specialty Retail, Lifestyle & Service Providers – Permanent Display award.

We couldn’t be prouder of our permanent penguin, and to say it’s been a hit this year would be an understatement. In addition to recognition at the Shop! ANZ Retail Marketing awards, PRH AU has received positive feedback from retailers who - along with their customers - loved the displays. In 2022, the penguin permanent bookcase not only became an in-store mascot for the PRH AU brand, but it also became a social media star, appearing intermittently on retailer, author, staff and PRH AU TikTok, Facebook and Instagram profiles.

Consumer love for the bookcase was widely expressed as well, with comments pouring in to inquire about purchasing it every time the shelf appeared on PRH socials. In response, PRH AU hosted a survey competition, offering one shelf as a prize, garnering 50,000 entries. Because the competition was the only way for consumers to access the shelf, the incentive for entry was high and helped build further hype around the iconic bookcase.

Needless to say, the awarded honours are well-deserved! The permanent penguin bookcase has not only taken home two trophies this year, but it’s also won a (permanent) place in the hearts of PRH AU staff and enamoured readers, retailers, and the broader retail industry.
