Introducing Classics in Session: Our new YouTube series made for classics lovers

Class is officially in session!

We’re excited to share Classics in Session, a new YouTube-first series powered by Penguin that takes the classics off the syllabus and puts them back into the conversation.

Each series will take a deep dive into a classic book, unpacking the characters, themes and big questions that still have us talking decades later. Think less lecture, more book club with VERY strong opinions.

And we’re kicking things off with a big one: John Steinbeck’s East of Eden.

With a new Netflix adaptation out now, we’re going back to the original book. Across four episodes we discuss why a 74-year-old novel still resonates today: good versus evil, the meaning of timshel, family drama and, of course, our favourite villain Cathy Ames.

All episodes are now live across YouTube and available in audio across Spotify & Apple.

Episode 1 - Why are we still reading East of Eden?

Episode 2 - Where are the ‘Good People’ in East of Eden?

Episode 3 - Is Cathy Actually Evil in East of Eden?

Episode 4 - Our Review of Netflix’s East of Eden | Book vs Show

Give it a watch, leave us a comment, and share it with anyone who loves books, classics or getting way too invested in fictional family drama.

Welcome to Classics in Session.
