There is only one guideline for Random Romance’s digital-first list – the stories must be indulgently romantic. But ‘romance’ means many things to many people. That’s why there are nine different shades of Random Romance, as indicated by the coloured bands on the covers. Here’s an easy guide to what each one means and to what you can expect.
Pink
Your classic romantic comedy. Random Romance’s pink tales will have you falling in love, time and time again, and are full of fun and adventure. Read our rom-coms if you like Helen Fielding’s Bridget Jones’s Diary, Marian Keyes’ This Charming Man and Sophie Kinsella’s The Undomestic Goddess.
Blue
Rural romance set in the great Australian outback. Think cowboys, tough independent women, B&S balls, utes, droughts and lots of mischief. You’ll fall deeply for Random Romance’s strong-yet-playful blue romances if you love Loretta Hill’s The Girl in the Steel-Capped Boots, Margareta Osborn’s Bella's Run and Rachael Herron’s Eliza’s Gift.
Violet
Swoon-worthy historical romance with everything to get your heart pumping, from rakish Dukes in Regency ballrooms, to swashbuckling pirate scoundrels on the high seas. If you fell for Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, Venetia by Georgette Heyer or Courtney Milan’s The Duchess War, you’ll be swept away by our violet historical romances.
Orange
Deeply romantic drama. These books tackle the big issues, are full of the twists and turns we face in life, and showcase the way love can bring us all together. Pick one up if you loved The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman or The Maxwell Sisters by Loretta Hill.
Green
Paranormal romance. Random Romance’s green books are where you’ll find bewitching shapeshifters, vampires, ghosts, werewolves and zombies. These are sultry stories that you can really sink your teeth into. Think Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight, Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles and Isaac Marion’s Warm Bodies.
Aqua
Crime romance to die for. Aqua is your colour if you’re a sucker for serial killers, hard-talking cops and chilling suspense, with a side order of thrilling romance. Pick up one of these killer reads if you liked Jaye Ford’s Already Dead, Diane Hester’s Run to Me and Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Purple
Romantic fantasy. Random Romance’s purple books are sweeping love sagas that transport you to other worlds. Fans of Marion Zimmer Bradley’s The Mists of Avalon series, Erika Johansen’s The Queen of the Tearling, Melina Marchetta’s Finnikin of the Rock and Isobelle Carmody’s Obernewtyn will fall in love with these seductive romantic fantasy reads.
Yellow
Recent historical romance. Stories from the late 1800s and early 1900s, from heartbreaking war-time romances to gold-rush-era love stories that will have you weak at the knees. Red
