Penguin Random House Australia has acquired Australian and New Zealand rights to Lynette Noni’s new series, The Prison Healer, via Jenny Meyer of Jenny Meyer Literary Agency, Inc, on behalf of Lynette’s US agent, Danielle Burby of Nelson Literary Agency.
Eight publishers bid in a heated auction for ANZ rights in the series, which weaves a masterful and actionpacked narrative that will take readers on a roller coaster of twists, turns and thrills, and sweep them up in a love story for the ages.
Lynette has been Australia’s recent breakout YA star, with her Medoran Chronicles series selling more than 100,000 copies, and the first in a new duology, Whisper, becoming the #1-bestselling Australian YA novel of 2018. This year Lynette won both the Gold Inky Award and the Australian Book Industry Award (ABIA) for Small Publishers’ Children’s Book of the Year for Whisper, and Akarnae is shortlisted in the 2019 REAL Awards.
‘Lynette is a superstar and has been an original and exciting voice over these last few years. She is such an important writer for young people in Australia and around the world and we’re thrilled to have Lynette in the PRH family,’ says Laura Harris, Publishing Director – Young Readers.
It’s not often that an Australian author is the talk of Frankfurt Book Fair, and Lynette’s The Prison Healer is set to become a true international sensation with rights already sold at auction in Brazil before the Fair and auctions currently underway for various territories including Germany and Hungary. North American and UK publishing deals are expected to be announced shortly.
‘I can definitely see why this series is receiving such huge attention around the world,’ says publisher Zoe Walton. ‘The buzz from our in-house readers has been amazing, and no wonder when The Prison Healer is such a brilliant, epic read.’
‘I’m so excited to be partnering with the incredible team at Penguin Random House!’ says author Lynette Noni. ‘Their passion and enthusiasm for me and my books makes me certain that The Prison Healer series is in wonderful hands. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for us!’
