Moonlight And Ashes

The story of Cinderella as you've never heard it before ...

The story of Cinderella as you've never heard it before ...

A girl whose fortunes have plummeted from wealthy aristocrat to servant-girl. A magic hazel twig. A prince. A desperate escape from danger.

This is not the story of a girl whose fairy godmother arranges her future for her. This is the story of Selena, who will take charge of her own destiny, and learn that her magic is not to be feared but celebrated.

Pure fairytale - with all the romance, magic and adventure that goes along with it.

Praise for Moonlight And Ashes

“In Sophie Masson’s elegant hands, a classic fairy tale is transformed into an engaging thriller full of drama and clever plot twists.”

Isobelle Carmody, author of THE OBERNEWTYN CHRONICLES

“This fabulous tale, inspired by the Grimm fairytale Ashputtel, will capture young romantics' hearts ... Werewolves, witches and princes provide ingredients for this fairytale, while a cunning heroine in Selena make this a great story for girls.”

Herald Sun

“The setting for Moonlight & Ashes is quite European. With the mention of hansom cabs and fashions magazines, one might assume it is set in the later half of the 19th century. Add in spooky forests, emperors and palaces and the world of the fairy tale is evoked, giving a dreamy feel to the story, and serving as the perfect backdrop for this story of adventure, romance and strength. With some good twists and turns, this is an enjoyable variation on an old favourite.”

Tina Cavanough, Magpies

“I finished this in a couple of hours, being caught up in the almost non-stop action and delighted by the beauty of the language. Yet it’s easy, comfortable reading and should appeal to girls from about fourteen up.”

“Ultimately this is a book of Cinderella filled with action, a bit of romance and mystery. If you're after a book like that then this is definitely the book for you!”

Paige Clayton, Townsville Bulletin

“In Moonlight and Ashes Sophie Masson has taken a tale that is familiar to us all, stripped it bare of its lace and frivolity and turned the skeleton into something strong, rich, and full of life … Masson has created a true fantasy from a tairytale, gracefully combining the old and the new and making it entirely her own.”
