About the author

Jo Nesbo

Jo Nesbo is one of the world’s bestselling crime writers, with The Leopard, Phantom, Police, The Son, The Thirst and Knife all topping the Sunday Times bestseller charts. He’s an international number one bestseller and his books are published in 50 languages, selling over 45 million copies around the world.

Before becoming a crime writer, Nesbo played football for Norway’s premier league team Molde, but his dream of playing professionally for Spurs was dashed when he tore ligaments in his knee at the age of eighteen. After three years military service he attended business school and formed the band Di Derre (‘Them There’). They topped the charts in Norway, but Nesbo continued working as a financial analyst, crunching numbers during the day and gigging at night. When commissioned by a publisher to write a memoir about life on the road with his band, he instead came up with the plot for his first Harry Hole crime novel, The Bat.

Praise for The Son

Gripping from start to finish

John Williams, Mail on Sunday

[Nesbo's] trademark twists and turns

Joan Smith, Sunday Times

Fast-paced and imaginatively violent, this latest example of Nesbo's Nordic noir hurtles like an express train towards a last act of almost operatic extravagance that leaves dead bodies and carefully nurtured reputations littering the stage. Great stuff altogether

Myles McWeeney, Belfast Telegraph

An expertly plotted, compelling and gripping white-knuckle ride… Nesbo deserves to be crowned the king of all crime thriller writers

Sunday Express

A cat-and-mouse chase between a young prisoner and a troubled detective, this is a tense, violent and hugely absorbing walk on the murky side of Oslo

Sunday Mirror

An excellent novelist... Nesbo paints an intricate, disturbing picture of rampant corruption within prison and the police service... The strong action is tempered by tenderness

Marcel Berlins, The Times

Whereas Headhunters, the first of Nesbø's novels not to feature Harry Hole, was a ruthlessly linear chase story, The Son is far more complex and sophisticated. The characterisation is deeper and more detailed... which only adds to the sense of life-and-death drama.

Evening Standard

Nesbo has crafted a book that's engaging, entertaining and surprising, with the kind of plot twists any crime writer would be proud of... It's an excellent whodunnit, with enough twists and turns to keep even the most experienced of crime fans guessing right up to the end

Sunday Business Post

The Son creates a brand new anti-hero, an avenging angel of sorts whose destiny is driven by righting perceived wrongs with a bloody and bullet-riddled path through the criminal underworld

Birmingham Mail

Jo Nesbo is an excellent novelist even if he's not writing about Harry Hole

Marcel Berlins, The Times

Another of Nesbo’s gripping tales

Sun

Complex and sophisticated... The world [Nesbo’s] creations inhabit is infinitely cruel, brutal yet beautiful

Mark Sanderson, Evening Standard

Watch it fly off the shelves and pack the audiences in the cinemas in equal measure

Roddy Brooks, UK Press Syndication

This story stays with you long after you’ve finished it

Joanna Czechowska, Woman

Nesbo is on top form with this crime novel, a book that you quite rightfully can't put down

Bristol Magazine

This is a novel of total authority, with a highly original concept

Good Book Guide

Nesbo never fails to deliver a cracking narrative – and this is one of his best
