The Energy Game

A Science-backed System to Recharge Without Pressing Pause on Life

Have you ever fantasised about getting sick? Not seriously, but just enough to justify a week in bed with no responsibilities and no one able to reach you?

You're not alone. And you're not broken. You're depleted.

In 2024, organisational psychologist and bestselling author Dr Amantha Imber hit rock bottom. Despite two decades of consulting to clients like Google, Apple and Disney on productivity and wellbeing, no colour-coded calendar system or morning routine could fix what was wrong. She was completely and utterly burnt out. Sound familiar?

Drawing on cutting-edge science and more than 50 research-backed challenges, The Energy Game gives you a system for rebuilding your vitality without a wellness retreat or life overhaul.

Discover your Energy Type, then choose your challenges:
BOOST: Fast power-ups for when you’re running low but still need to show up
REST: Real recovery that rebuilds you while you’re still living your life
PROTECT: Smarter boundaries so you stop haemorrhaging energy before it’s gone

Grounded in science, most challenges take just minutes. And none of them require you to be a different kind of person.

Finally, an energy book that doesn’t tell you to wake up at 4 a.m. and meditate your way to enlightenment. The Energy Game is for high achievers who are exhausted but still getting it done. The card-based toolkit is genius – tiny, science-backed plays you can use when your brain is cooked and your calendar is chaos. Smart, punchy and actually doable. A must-read for anyone sick of running on empty.

I’ve always loved Amantha’s science-backed approach, but The Energy Game really hits differently. She takes solid behavioural science and makes it practical, doable and refreshingly human — not preachy or overwhelming. It’s smart, simple and a realistic way to feel like your best self again.

Self care can be incredibly elusive. Dr Amantha has created an easy-to-use and, dare I say it, FUN way to give your body and mind a point of rest, focus and boost, all through her new book The Energy Game. Equipped with a set of cards, suddenly self care becomes a delightful game that you want to play. Well researched yet without the heavy language of some self help books. Fantastic.

Ali Daddo, TV host and author

I'm always on the lookout for a lifehack, but it's rare to find a personalised system that can go the distance. If you are a high-achieving leader who believes you can't stop until everything is ticked off (and perfect), you need this book! The Energy Game doesn't lower your standards; it will actually give you the clarity and energy to live up to them consistently. Highly recommended!

In a burnt-out world, The Energy Game brings fun, play and energy back together. It’s a beautiful reminder that life is a game meant to be played — and that energy is our most vital resource. By turning energy into a set of joyful habits and prioritising what fuels us, this book shows us how to live and perform with greater vitality.

Ben Crowe, bestselling author of Where the Light Gets In

This book is for anyone too tired for complicated advice and sick of being told to 'just rest more' or being sold another 'quick fix'. The Energy Game is a refreshingly practical solution with its card-based, experiment-driven approach blending empathy, science and real-world actionability into something you can ACTUALLY use, even on your toughest day. It’s the book I’d hand to anyone who feels like they’re running on empty because this will help you not just survive, but truly thrive.
