Many people think they know this history of the SAS, and its famed creator David Stirling. But another figure in the founding of this elite raiding force has not enjoyed the same fame. Without the bravery and vision of Jock Lewes the chances of the SAS becoming a viable organisation would have been slight. His contribution has been cast into the shadows by the very bright light the SAS would go onto burn throughout the rest of the desert war and subsequent Allied campaigns.
