About the author

Marianne Musgrove

Marianne Musgrove wrote her first full-length novel at the age of eleven: a romantic thriller featuring her unfortunate classmates. Although the unpublished manuscript met with only localised acclaim, she never gave up her dream of becoming an author. A descendant of King Henry VIII's librarian, you could say books are in her blood! Marianne grew up in Sydney then moved to Adelaide to go to university. There, she studied English (which she loved), law (which she loathed) and social work (which she made her career for several years). Marianne's first children's novel, The Worry Tree, is the winner of the Australian Family Therapists Award for Children's Literature 2008 and has been shortlisted for three other awards. Lucy the Good, Lucy the Lie Detector and Don't Breathe a Word are also available now.

Praise for Lucy The Lie Detector

Lucy the Lie Detector is a fantastic book, I am giving a ten out of ten! This book is very exciting and makes your heart beat really fast.

Annabel, age 8, Random House Book Buddies

This sequel to Lucy the Good. . . cements South Australian author Marianne Musgrove's place as a talented writer of intelligent, light-hearted fiction for girls . . . The main attraction is Lucy herself. A headstrong and stubborn rule-bender, she struggles with making the right choices and often learns the consequences of her actions the hard way. But for all her flaws, Lucy is a remarkably likeable and relatable protagonist - a testament to Musgrove's skills in creating strong, interesting characters, of which there are many in this book. This is a thoughtful and engaging illustrated read for girls seven years and over.

Meredith Tate, Australian Bookseller + Publisher

This is a warm, entertaining story, which makes its point without moralising, but which offers many useful opportunities for young children to consider their choices. It is very insightful as a way to examine 'values' in childrens' day-to-day behaviours and life choices.
