About the authors

Adrian Beck

Adrian Beck writes funny, action-packed stories for kids. He is the author of the Derek Dool series, the Champion Charlies series, the Alien Zoo series and the co-author of the Little Legends series with Nicole Hayes, plus the Kick it to Nick series with AFL hall-of-famer Shane Crawford. Scott Edgar

After a childhood steeped in role playing games, comic books and getting in trouble for drawing lizard warriors in the margins of exam papers, Scott has gone on to a career in the creative arts which has taken him through theatre, music, comedy, games, radio and television. But he always finds his way back to his first love of drawing lizard warriors in the margins of exam papers.

Scott studied Design at Monash University before running off to join the circus (aka a Theatre Production degree at the Victorian College of the Arts). Scott works in the comics, games and children’s book space. And he is also a writer for games and animation, for studios such as the Cartoon Network and Ubisoft games.

Praise for Derek Dool Supercool 1: Bust a Move

A humorous, Aussie read, Derek Dool should appeal to reluctant readers aged 8+ who have enjoyed Middle School, WeirDo and Timmy Failure.

Renee Mihulka, Reading Time

Just like the awesomeness Derek believes is pumping through his veins, this book is pumping with pure fun. It’s a delight to read a book where the characters and action truly jump off the page, and that delivers the light-hearted relief that the cover promises.

Better Reading

Kids from around 8 years upwards will absolutely love this. It is exactly the kind of slapstick funny, gross-out humour, ridiculous situations and outrageous characters that they love. And with Edgar’s comical illustrations and the interspersed Bad Dad Jokes they will get even more laughs out of it.

Sue Warren, Just So Stories

A fun book for the family/class to share.

Linda J, Weeksy Reviews

...with its short chapters, punchy sentences and liberal illustrations this is a new series that is going to have wide appeal with independent readers who don't want to have to concentrate on convoluted storylines and complex characters yet.

Barbara Braxton, Read Plus

Derek Dool Supercool: Bust a Move is a wickedly funny junior novel, perfect for kids who love a fun read that doesn’t take itself too seriously. With jokes galore, stacks of silliness and funky illustrations by Scott Edgar throughout, it’s a great read for junior readers. And the start of a great new series.

Shaye Wardrop, Kids' Book Review

There are many boys like Derek in our classrooms so his situation will resonate with them, and with its short chapters, punchy sentences and liberal illustrations this is a new series that is going to have wide appeal with independent readers who don’t want to have to concentrate on convoluted storylines and complex characters yet.

Barbara Braxton, The Bottom Shelf blog

Derek is a kid who is decidedly not perfect. The hilarity comes from the fact that all those around him can recognize this, but Derek is blissfully ignorant to it! The magic and charm is humor that can be related to.

Dark Matter Zine

If your child appreciates a good story and a good laugh – I confidently recommend Derek Dool Supercool: Bust A Move.
