Readers have spoken, and The Guardian has now released a shortlist of Australia’s top 50 children’s picture books.
Shortlisted titles must be written by an Australian, published in Australia, primarily intended to be read aloud to children and able to be read in a few minutes. Among the nominees are longtime favourites from iconic Australian names.
On 27 January 2026, the poll will open, allowing readers to vote for their number one pick.
