Write It Fellowship Shortlist 2023

We are thrilled to announce the shortlist for the Write It Fellowship 2023.

We are thrilled to announce the shortlist for Write It, a fellowship program that aims to find, nurture and develop unpublished writers across all genres with a focus on under-represented sections of our community.

Shortlist:

  • The Need of Comrades – Tim Jones (Historical Fiction)
  • Etched in Gold – Uma Srinivasan (Historical Fiction)
  • In Pursuit of a Diamond – Emily Tran (Autobiographical Fiction)
  • Welfare Queens – Rebecca Douglas (Fiction)
  • The Rainbow Serpent – Andrew John (Crime Fiction)
  • Esther – Victoria Bassett-Wilton (Psychological Horror)
  • God on the Tongue – Tiffany Plotzza (Fiction)
  • Tattered Paper – Sarah-Jane Burton (Historical Fiction / Semi-Autobiographical)
  • Dorris – Nadine Story (Middle Grade Fantasy)
  • Part of the Game – Mia Formichella (Memoir)
  • It's a Sign – Ela Pinar (Poetry)

This year we received the largest number of applicants since the program began in 2018, with submissions, exploring an array of themes, genres and age groups – including works aimed at adult and young adult audiences. The Write It Fellowship aspires to find, nurture and develop unpublished writers across all genres with a focus on under-represented sections of our community, such as writers from socio-economically marginalised backgrounds, LGBTQIA+, First Nations, CALD (culturally and linguistically diverse) or writers with a disability. The fellowship provides recipients with the opportunity to be mentored by Penguin Random House Australia editors and participate in an Open House Day at PRH Australia to learn about the various aspects of the publishing process.

The fellowship recipients will be announced on Monday 9 October 2023.
