Our Speakers

Jamila Rizvi

Over the past five years, Jamila Rizvi has firmly established herself as the preeminent voice of young Australian women online. She is a columnist for News Limited, a presenter for Fox FM and a regular television commentator for shows including The Project and The Drum. Jamila’s debut book Not Just Lucky was published by Penguin Random House in July 2017.

Jamila is the former Editor-in-Chief of the Mamamia Women’s Network websites. Prior to entering the media, Jamila worked in politics for former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Minister Kate Ellis. In 2014 she was named one of Cosmopolitan’s 30 Most Successful Women Under 30, in 2015, she was listed as one of Australia’s 100 Women of Influence by the Australian Financial Review and in 2017 was named one of Melbourne’s Most Influential Women Under 40 by The Weekly Review.

Sophia Cachia

She may be most well-known by her prolific public profile as ‘The Young Mummy’, but Sophie is just about one of the most gutsy, get-up-and-go, no-bullshit young women we’ve ever met. She presents a refreshingly relatable perspective not often seen online. She’s a shining example of the every-day wonder-woman, giving an honest, real, brutal, laugh-out-loud, relatable voice to all mum’s and young women out there.

While following in her father’s footsteps on her path to a high-flying career in the media, Sophie found motherhood. She became a proud mum to son Bobby at the age of 23. After becoming quite overwhelmed with the vast amount of information on offer for new mothers, Sophie decided it was best to start documenting her own story, and her own experiences. She created a space new to social media, where people could come and openly discuss their highs and lows, without the need to feel pressured to conform to society’s expectations of what a mother should be. A brilliant wordsmith, Sophie took to her blog to discuss pregnancy, motherhood and everything in between.

Media appearances aside, Sophie is passionate about using her platform to benefit others, developing a strong interest in charities, especially in the fields of children and mental illness.

Tanya Hennessy

Tanya is a face to watch and a voice to listen out for! Radio announcer, comedian, and writer. Tanya began her radio began in 2012 with Southern Cross Austereo at NXFM Newcastle, where Tanya worked as the weekend announcer. She followed this with stints as a Breakfast Announcer in Griffith, NSW and Toowoomba, QLD. During that time, she also had a segment on the HIT Network’s national show SCOOPLA with Jules Lund and Emma Freedman. In 2016 she took on the breakfast shift for HIT104.7 in Canberra working alongside co-host Ryan Jon on the Tanya and Ryan Show. Tanya has also been busy filling in across national breakfast shows on the HIT Network.

As a writer, Tanya authors a monthly column for News.com.au where she candidly shares her experiences and opinions on life matters. One particular column on the ‘difficulty of moving cities and having no friends’ (of which she has much experience!) is one of the most viewed articles on News.com.au (250,000 clicks in twelve hours) and featured on several national breakfast and news television shows including National 9 News, Studio 10, Weekend TODAY and The Project. Her columns are regularly syndicated across News Corporation publications including Daily Telegraph, The Courier Mail, Perth & Adelaide Now and The Daily Mail.
