Your Celestial Compass

Astrology for self-discovery and empowerment

Extract

Since ancient times, humans have looked to the starry skies for guidance. Astrology, which originated thousands of years ago in Mesopotamia, studies the movements and positions of celestial bodies and their influence on human life, as interpreted through the Zodiac signs. Its wisdom then spread throughout the world, including in India as Vedic astrology or Jyotish, meaning ‘science of light’, and Greece, where the constellations merged with mythology, depicting epic tales of heroes and divine adventures.

Astrologers have long used celestial alignments and cycles to advise kings and queens on critical matters, from wars and plagues to famines and political alliances. Throughout history, many notable philosophical and scientific minds, such as Hippocrates, Ptolemy, Galileo, Kepler, and Carl Jung, were advocates for astrology.

As a professional astrologer, I ‘read the stars’, interpreting how the Sun, Moon, and planets’ interact within the Zodiac. My practice has taught me one thing for certain: that life flows more smoothly when we sail with the astrological currents, rather than swimming against them. Yet it’s clear that while the stars can guide us, they don’t shield us from the consequences of our choices.

FROM NATASHA TO ASTROTASH: THE STORY BEHIND MY COSMIC CALLING

My journey in to the wonderful world of astrology was destined. Coming from a maternal bloodline of clairvoyants, I’ve always been captivated by the mystical and what lies beyond the veil. I had the unique experience of growing up in the Melbourne Zoo since both my parents worked there . I was constantly in the company of animals – chimpanzees, jaguars, lion cubs, armadillos, bears, you name it. With the Zoo as my playground and home , my childhood teemed  with adventure. (My family, including my Rising sign, is brimming with Sagittarian energy, a sign linked to animals and the great outdoors.) Our dinner table conversations often centred around life’s natural rhythms, and our many family holidays in the Australian bush nurtured my deep respect and connection to Mother Earth, her creatures, and the cosmos to which we are all intertwined.

Fast forward to high school, where I went into the performing arts on a ballet scholarship (I am a Gemini Sun, a sign associated not just with verbal and written communication but also with body language and storytelling through movement).

Following the birth of my first child, I reached a crossroads and instinctively knew there was something more – I just didn’t know what it was . What I did know, deep down, was that whatever I chose to pursue had to be my true north; that thing that makes your heart sing and ignites your passion purpose. So, what did I do? I prayed, meditated, and manifested, of course. Astrology was already on my vision board, but since it wasn’t offered in Australian universities, I was unsure how to proceed. (With my Sun in the sixth house, associated with perfectionist, meticulous Virgo , I was adamant about not moving forward without some form of formal, recognised training).

After two weeks, I received a clear ‘sign’ when I serendipitously bumped into the much-loved television astrologer, Karen Moregold. She kindly directed me to a highly regarded astrology school, the Academy of Astrology and Cosmobiology, under the guidance of my esteemed teacher and mentor, Pamela Rowe . That was over two decades ago, and the rest, as they say, is cosmic history.

Is astrology fortune-telling?

One common myth about astrology is that the planets force our actions, and that it is simply a fortune-telling technique. But the truth is that astrology is the cosmic interplay between humankind and the Universe, each mirroring the other in a dance of synergy and symbiosis. If we can understand the choreography of the dance, we can make the best possible decisions for ourselves.

Astrology doesn’t write the final script to our lives; it’s less of a crystal ball and more of a weather report. It’s there to inform, not to instruct or provide a ‘get out of jail free’ card. By becoming the director of your life’s movie, you’re in the position to call the shots. Astrology simply acts as a guide, helping to illuminate the options that craft your narrative.

Think of astrology as a tool to navigate life’s turbulent waters. Of course, sometimes, despite your best efforts, escaping adversity isn’t possible because, during your lifetime, you’re meant to experience challenges to evolve. However, when used wisely, astrology can assist in sidestepping undue struggles and minimising unnecessary hardship. It can also identify opportune periods when you’re likely to sparkle brightest. Being well prepared for these optimal moments enhances your chances of success whether you’re launching a business, beginning a new relationship, or kicking off a health regime.

In short, astrology can help you cultivate a fulfilling life and become the best version of yourself. Understanding the celestial cycles gets you one step ahead of the game.

While the planets can’t make your final decisions, they can light the best way forward, providing timeframes for you to plan and prepare. The planets’ and the Zodiac’s interplay can create change, challenges, or opportunities. But ultimately, how you utilise the circumstances that the cosmos dishes out is up to you. Remember, you are the champion of your destiny.

Written for the spiritually curious, this book is all about harnessing the power of astrology to deepen your self-awareness. There’s no need to be an expert astrologer or to have taken formal courses to grasp astrology’s message. So, dive in if you’re eager to uncover more about yourself and elevate your astrological knowledge along the way. Read on and let the stars guide your journey!
