When tragedy strikes, a young girl learns the importance of hope and community in this moving picture book from acclaimed author Shauntay Grant.

After a community member is lost suddenly, a young girl and her father make their way to a protest in their memory. Along the way, she learns how bright spots can still be found in the midst of dark times and that keeping hope is the only way to carry through. Told in African proverbs, Where There Is Hope explores a heavy topic, one many kids must deal with early on, and presents it for young readers in a way that is age appropriate and opens dialogue. This gorgeous picture book provides a safe space for learning about harsh realities and offers support and hope from start to finish.

Praise for Where There Is Hope

"Moreno’s bright digital artwork is filled with warm, vibrant colors, while Grant’s first-person narration reflects her protagonist’s determination and resolve; author and illustrator have crafted a moving tale of a family drawing on a rich heritage to confront painful realities. Backmatter includes a map of Africa and information on the origins of the proverbs. A powerful celebration of the African diaspora and its generational legacy."—Kirkus
