About the authors

Adrian Beck

Adrian Beck writes funny, action-packed stories for kids. He is the author of the Derek Dool series, the Champion Charlies series, the Alien Zoo series and the co-author of the Little Legends series with Nicole Hayes, plus the Kick it to Nick series with AFL hall-of-famer Shane Crawford. Together with Sally Rippin, Adrian edited the Total Quack Up! and Total Quack Up Again! collections of short stories to raise money for Dymocks Children’s Charities. As well as being an author, Adrian is a TV producer and a lover of very bad dad jokes. Adrian draws on his showbiz roots to create engaging, interactive school presentations and is passionate about fostering a love of reading among the next generation.

Sally Rippin

Sally Rippin was born in Darwin, but grew up mainly in South-East Asia. As a young adult she lived in China for three years, studying traditional Chinese painting. Sally has over seventy books published, many of them award-winning, including two novels for young adults. Her work includes the highly acclaimed Polly and Buster trilogy and the popular Billie B Brown and Hey Jack! books, which became the highest selling series for 6-8 year olds in Australia within the first year of their release. Sally is Australia’s highest selling female author and her books have sold more than 4.5 million copies in 14 languages.

Sally is a popular presenter in schools and at literary festivals both in Australia and overseas and has a regular program on 3RRR interviewing children’s authors and industry professionals. She is a passionate ambassador for the 100 Story Building, Dymocks Childrens’ Charities and also the Australian Reading Hour. Recently, she and Kids WB producer, Adrian Beck, have collaborated on a video series called the KidLit Club, which airs fortnightly.

Praise for Total Quack Up Again!

Totally kid-oriented in its focus, support and outcomes, this is the perfect book for the collection or the Christmas stocking to ensure our readers keep reading.

Barbara Braxton, The Bottom Shelf blog

These kinds of stories are the sorts that kids who are already readers and fans of these authors will enjoy, and that will hopefully encourage reluctant readers to explore a world of reading, or new authors that they will go onto read further works from.

Ashleigh Meikle, The Book Muse

The stories are aimed at primary school ages, and as such are filled with fart gags and nose picking, but not all of them employ toilet humour. Kim Kane’s Clean the car explores the extremes of a messy family car – guaranteed to resonate with parents everywhere. Coby Sanchez’s The Duck Pond sees Derek the Duck secretly pursue a career in stand-up comedy. Most of the stories make good use of puns, which will be sure to elicit groans and eye-rolls, if not laughter.

Rebecca Kemble, CBCA Reading Time

Children (and adults that love kids books), prepare to be entertained, shocked and surprised. This short story collection is full of funny, gross, hilarious, improbable and unbelievable stories that will have children aghast by the concentration in one volume, of stuff they love to read about.

Kids' Book Review

With all the aspects young readers are looking for including ridiculous situations, ‘smelly’ stories and weird characters this will be a welcome addition to any primary library.
