I stood at the start of the new year feeling renewed, thinking that having got through the challenges of I'm a Celebrity ... I had survived the toughest experience of my life, faced my worst fears and thrived. Surely 2020 would be a breeze. How wrong I was. It hadn't been anything close to the toughest experience of my life. My biggest challenge was just around the corner, and it was, for the most part, going to take place in my own home.

In March 2020, Kate Garraway's husband, Derek Draper, contracted Covid-19 and was placed in a medically-induced coma. Initially, Kate was told that he would not survive. Still in hospital and in a critical condition, he is thought to be the UK's longest-fighting Covid-19 patient.
