About the authors

Gordon Bowker

Gordon Bowker was born in Birmingham, where he attended King Edward's Gramma School, Camp Hill. He spent two years sheepfarming in Australia and three years in the RAF. After training as a teacher, he went to Nottingham University to study philosophy, English and sociology, and later received a PhD from London University. He taught sociology at Goldsmith's College, London, from 1966 to 1991, for six years teaching courses in biography. He is now a full0time author and journalist and his works include Pursued by Furies: A Biography of Malcolm Lowry.
