The Forget-Me-Not Summer

A story of tragedy, triumph and love in wartime Liverpool from the bestselling author Katie Flynn

Liverpool 1936

Miranda and her mother, Arabella, live comfortably in a nice area. But when her mother tells her she can no longer afford their present lifestyle, they have a blazing row, and Miranda goes to bed angry and upset. When she wakes the next morning, however, her mother has disappeared.

She raises the alarm but everyone is baffled, and when searches fail to discover Arabella’s whereabouts, Miranda is forced to live with her Aunt Vi and cousin Beth, who resent her presence and treat her badly.

Miranda is miserable, but when she meets a neighbour, Steve, things begin to look up and Steve promises to help his new friend in her search, and does so until war intervenes…

About the Author

Katie Flynn

Katie Flynn lived for many years in the north-west. A compulsive writer, she started with short stories and articles and many of her early stories were broadcast on Radio Merseyside. She decided to write her Liverpool series after hearing the reminiscences of family members about life in the city in the early years of the twentieth century. She also wrote as Judith Saxton. For the last few years of her life, she had to cope with ME but continued to write with the help of her daughter, Holly Flynn. Sadly, Katie passed away on 1 January 2019, but had already begun working with Holly on upcoming books, which will be published in 2019 and beyond.
