From nuclear submarines and underwater drones to internet cables, AI infrastructure and the race for critical minerals, the seabed has become the newest frontier in global power.

In SUB WAR, leading international security expert Bruce D. Jones takes readers inside this hidden struggle, revealing why the United States, China and Russia are investing billions to dominate the undersea world - and why the outcome will shape everything from global trade and military power to the internet, artificial intelligence and the balance of the world order.

Drawing on rare access to a US nuclear attack submarine and decades advising governments on international strategy, Jones combines first-hand reporting with authoritative insight to illuminate one of the most important stories of our age.

Gripping, accessible and deeply timely, SUB WAR uncovers the invisible battlefield beneath our feet - and explains why whoever controls the oceans will determine the future of the twenty-first century.

Praise for SUB WAR

The future of global power may be determined under the seas. In Sub War, Bruce Jones shows how the world's leading militaries are racing to dominate the underwater battlespace. An urgent and illuminating book.

Chris Miller, New York Times bestselling author of Chip War: The Fight for the World's Most Critical Technology

The best book on undersea warfare and competition since Blind Man’s Bluff. With unparalleled access, Jones has given us an authoritative account of this crucial realm, and of the intense arms race unfurling within it. You can’t understand world history without studying sea power, and increasingly sea power hinges on dominance below the waves. Sub War shows us why, and brings to life this near-impenetrable world in vivid detail. A must-read.

Admiral James Stavridis, US Navy (Retired), 16th Supreme Allied Commander of NATO

I was riveted, scared, and eager to read more. This is the most exciting thing I’ve picked up in a long time.

Robert Kagan, author of The Ghost at the Feast
