A high-octane adventure series for children written in partnership with the Royal Flying Doctor Service

It’s a race against time and the destructive forces of nature!

Twelve-year-old Alice lives in the outback mining town of Mount Magnet. One morning, she is struck down with acute appendicitis. To make things worse, the nearest hospital is hundreds of kilometres away and Alice’s appendix could rupture at any moment. An urgent call is made to the Royal Flying Doctor Service and a plane is despatched. But as a massive storm approaches, the pressure is on for the RFDS to get to Alice and transport her to the hospital before it hits.

About the author

George Ivanoff

George Ivanoff is a Melbourne author who’s written more than 100 books for kids and teens, including the interactive You Choose series, the non-fiction Survival Guides, the RFDS Adventures and the Other Worlds series.

As a child, George loved reading interactive books, where he got to make decisions about the direction of the story. He has had more fun plotting and writing the You Choose books than pretty much anything else. Writing the Survival Guides has indulged his curiosity, interest in research and desire to learn new things. And writing the RFDS Adventures has opened his eyes to the amazing work done by the Royal Flying Doctor Service. With Other Worlds George has ventured into the realms of science fiction and fantasy, two of his favourite genres, in order to tell stories about ordinary kids facing extraordinary circumstances.

George’s books and stories have been shortlisted for numerous awards and he is thrilled that You Choose: The Treasure of Dead Man’s Cove won the 2015 YABBA for Fiction for Younger Readers.

George drinks too much coffee, eats too much chocolate and watches too much Doctor Who. He has one wife, two children and an uncontrollable imagination.

Praise for Royal Flying Doctor Service 2: Emergency Echo

The stories are true to life and written in a very accessible way that will suit not-so-strong readers as well as those who are sailing competently through their literary quests. They revolve around the outstanding and unique work of the RFDS and the many patients, emergencies and emotional dramas this wonderful service supports.

Sue Warren, Just So Stories

Emergency Echo is part of a new series about the Royal Flying Doctor Service by George Ivanoff that is perfect for the newly independent reader wanting a good, solid adventure series. Well-researched and accompanied by information about the Service, the places, the illness (so readers are already informed of what to expect if it befalls them) it is a welcome addition to the quality literature being written for young readers. Authentic and engaging and different, they will appeal to both boys and girls who will be asking you to get Remote Rescue (already available) and Medical Mission and Fast Flight (coming in May).

Barbara Braxton, OZ_TLNet

Both books in this new series open with a sense of excitement and intrigue that will grab young readers from the very first page . . . Fantastic adventures with one of our most significant not-for-profit organisations and a reminder of the vastness and remoteness of this geographically unusual country.
