No Longer Human Complete Edition (manga)

Osamu Dazai's classic tale retold by Usamaru Furuya is now in a complete omnibus edition!

Osamu Dazai's classic tale retold by Usamaru Furuya is now in a complete omnibus edition!

No Longer Human, the searing semi-autobiographical novel by Osamu Dazai, Japan’s Dostoevsky, trades its original prewar setting for the brave new world of the aught years in this adaptation by the enfant terrible of manga. This unique omnibus, previously available in three installments, features left-to-right (rather than “flipped”) art drawn by the creator himself for Western audiences. Find out how a self-described clown awakens to his dark genius.

About the authors

Usamaru Furuya

After graduating from Tama University of the Arts, Tokyo native Usamaru Furuya turned his attention to the world of comics. Since his debut in 1994, he has gone on to draw sixteen titles. First translated into English in the nineties before the onset of the manga boom, he won an expectant cult following in the United States that is being rewarded only today with a new spate of localizations.

Osamu Dazai

Shuji Tsushima (1909–1948), better known by his pen name Osamu Dazai, was a Japanese writer. Many of his works, including the novel No Longer Human (1948) and the novella Schoolgirl (1939) are considered modern classics in Japan. His life was marred by addiction, depression and impoverishment, but his works soared in popularity, particularly in the post-war years. He died by suicide in 1948.
