No Doors, No Windows

A Novel

Joe Schreiber's No Doors, No Windows is just as gripping and fast-paced as his first novel. Publishers Weekly said of Chasing the Dead: "Abandon hope, all readers who enter Schreiber's taut, scary debut: you're not going anywhere until you devour every one of its tension-filled pages. With its rural New England setting, this horror-fest pays respectful, clever homage to Stephen King's backyard. Readers will anxiously await his next outing."(starred review)

When madness is your inheritance, how do you escape it?

Scott Mast thought he got away–first from a family haunted by a dark fate, then from a dull career writing greeting cards in Seattle. But now he has come back to his New Hampshire hometown only to find that his family is in ruins, his nephew needs a home, and a shattering truth is clawing its way into the light.

Fifteen years ago, Scott’s mother died in a fire. And now the shadowy circumstances–the bodies buried beneath the ashes, the lives ripped apart that fateful day–are starting to be revealed. The answers unspool in the pages of a peculiar old manuscript–an unfinished ghost story written in his father’s own hand that beckons Scott out to a strange house in the woods with a lightless corridor that cannot be seen from the outside. Here Scott Mast will uncover all that has been hidden–and perhaps finish his father’s unspeakable work.

Praise for No Doors, No Windows

"In the end, Schreiber [delivers] a book that is just as engaging and visceral as his impressive debut. In fact, "Eat the Dark" is an even tighter, better written and more intense nail-biter than its predecessor. So horror readers everywhere, hang on because Joe Schreiber is here to stay..." -- FantasyCritic.com

"Joe Schreiber's Chasing the Dead is like a tour of The Twilight Zone via Stephen King. What starts as a serial-killer novel evolves into a pulse-pounding excursion into nightmare and terror. Taut and razor sharp, it demands to be read with the lights on." -- James Rollins
