Praise for Mermaid Holidays 1: The Talent Show

This is the first in a four-book series, each episode featuring on a different mermaid and their cast of ocean family and friends and each with underlying themes of friendship, teamwork, individuality and compassion. Written in short, easy-to-read chapters and with lots of illustrations, it will appeal to young female readers who are transitioning to novels from their instructional readers.

Barbara Braxton, The Bottom Shelf blog

The author has played with words to give the story an underwater feel. Key words are highlighted in hot pink for emphasis, particularly alliteration like “crushed and crumpled” and “whizzed and whooshed”. Very reluctant readers could be enticed to just read the pink words while the story is read aloud to them.

Carissa Mason, CBCA Reading Time

This is one to recommend to the young reader discovering chapter books and reading independence. Especially if they love mermaids!
