‘A cast of characters who are endearing, maddening and altogether human. I loved it! The very lushness of the magical setting is also a thrill’ ELIZABETH STROUT on Welcome to Glorious Tuga
The luminous finale of the Tuga trilogy imagines the future of one small island, and dives deep into its hidden history . . .
On remote Tuga de Oro the islanders’ lives and fates are inextricably interwoven. Vet Charlotte Walker battles to protect the tiny tropical island that has always been their safe haven, while exhausted doctor Dan Zekri never stops running, in his commitment to care for all the families that call it home.
But Tuga is facing an existential crisis. Their treasured idyll is increasingly imperilled by desperate financial straits. The only solution is to welcome a series of cruise liners, but while many embrace the ships as progress, others are sounding the alarm. Island relationships are fraying at the edges.
Into this shifting landscape arrives Alex dos Santos, a young man struggling to find his place, and unable to repair the rift with his beloved sister, Annie, after a separation of man years.
But from laconic bartender Levi Mendoza to curmudgeonly Grand Mary, Tugans must all pull together to secure the future of glorious Tuga. Can the beloved inhabitants safeguard all they treasure, without losing the heart of all they love?
With breathtaking precision and a deft comic touch, Francesca Segal weaves together the island's urgent present and its concealed past, as the islanders fight to protect the fragile beauty of their island, and the precious values that have always sustained them.
