Cash Out

Sophie has never really thought about money, and she certainly hasn’t thought about football, hasn’t so much as uttered a word about it – save for the few times she sees her uncle Keith at family gatherings, asking in mock politeness how his favourite team – Leicester City FC – might be doing that season.

But when Keith makes a bet for Leicester’s win in Sophie’s name, something inexplicable happens. She begins to think about money – lots of money – and she begins to think about football. The team are on a winning streak, and the bookies are offering her good money to cash out. Maybe Sophie can finally pull herself and her slacker boyfriend out of the financial holes he keeps digging. Maybe she no longer needs to settle for the slacker boyfriend at all. A new man is on the horizon; a windfall is within reach.

Suddenly life as she knows it, and the people she lives it with, are hanging by a thread. Sophie must decide whether to play it safe and cash out, or to risk it all…
