Nancy Underhill was Foundation Head of the Department of Art History and first Director of the University Art Museum at the University of Queensland. She has been on the Visual Arts Board of the Australia Council, Chair of the Australian Art History and Museums Associations, author of Making Australian Art 1916-1949, and co-editor of Letters of John Reed: Defining Australian Cultural Life 1920-1981, published by Penguin in 2001. Over the last six years she has spent extensive periods ordering the archive at Nolan's home and selecting material for Nolan on Nolan.
