Daniel Pick was educated at Jesus College and King's College, Cambridge, and subsequently trained as a psychoanalyst at the British Psychoanalytical Society. He is currently Professor of Cultural History, Queen Mary, University of London, and is the author of numerous articles and several previous books, including Svengali's Web: The Alien Enchanter in Modern Culture (2000) and Rome Or Death.
