8 books Conrad Fisher would love (or learn from).
If you are anything like us, The Summer I Turned Pretty has been the main topic of your conversations for weeks. Over lunch, in the locker room, around the dinner table – there’s no denying that every Wednesday we are SAT. Belly, Jeremiah, Conrad and the two-tier double mirror glaze chocolate cake are all the buzz!
If you’ve read We’ll Always Have Summer, and need to bide your time while you wait for next Wednesday to roll around, we’ve got the perfect recommendations for you. Not just for you – for our very own peach-hating, man of sunshine and witty comebacks, Conrad Fisher.
Please enjoy this list of what we think Conrad Fisher would love! And let’s be honest, with the summer he is having, he is definitely in need of a good book . . .
Books we'd recommend Conrad Fisher
The Catcher in the Rye J. D. Salinger
The ultimate brooding teen novel. Conrad would eat this book up and find plenty of ways to relate to Holden. Desperate for human connection? Check. A sense of loss that others don’t understand. Check. A mixed feeling of excitement for future possibilities with the emptiness that comes with putting others before yourself? C.H.E.C.K.
And let’s not forget the matching intellectual vibes . . . perfection on a page.
Ottolenghi SIMPLE Yotam Ottolenghi
For a man as complex as Conrad, he sure has the blandest diet we know! We think it’s about time that cooking for your loved ones actually tasted nice, so SIMPLE was the obvious choice.
Conrad, for the sake of everyone around you, please learn to cook something other than grilled chicken and vegetables!
Our Infinite Fates Laura Steven
Conrad’s love for Belly has spanned years, but it’s got nothing on the love between Evelyn and Arden. They’re fated to be with each other but are destined to spend their years killing one another.
With plenty of grief mixed in, this is the perfect read for yearning souls. Just don’t get any ideas about the best way to win Belly back . . .
Pride and Prejudice Jane Austen
Generations of readers have fallen in love with Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy, and Conrad is one of them. He would probably volunteer to dissect every aspect of the story with his fancy Stanford classmates.
But deep down, we know Conrad’s copy of this love story would be well loved and notated. After all, he had to learn the perfect way to pine and yearn from someone!
Blueback Tim Winton
Given his love for surfing, we just know Conrad would love the premise of this book. Add in the seemingly idyllic life that isn’t quite what it seems, plus finding wisdom through internal harmony and you’ve got yourself the perfect cross-country-travel story.
Catch Conrad pondering his existence over the next wave on his surfboard this summer.
First Aid Manual 11th Edition DK
This one is pretty obvious . . .
Belly isn’t always going to be around to save you from being maimed by your surfboard, or electrocuting yourself, so it’s about time you put that medical degree to use! Or, just rely on this manual, given the recent firing from the hospital . . .
Romeo and Juliet William Shakespeare
With killer lines like ‘Parting is such sweet sorrow’, and a love story that spans warring families and death, we just know Conrad would feel seen by Shakespeare.
Like young Romeo who fell desperately in love with Juliet and would do anything to keep her safe and happy, Conrad lives for Belly. Let’s just hope their story doesn’t end in tragedy.
These Jokes Will Annoy Everyone You Know
We know what you’re thinking – Conrad is perfect, Dad jokes and all. BUT hear us out, everyone can do with adding a few new jokes to the repertoire. Extra points if they annoy your girlfriend-stealing brother to the point of insanity!
