About

Author Talk with Geoff Parkes
The Yass Valley Library warmly invites you to an exclusive author event with Geoff Parkes discussing his latest noir novel, The First Law of the Bush. Based in Melbourne and a long-time opinion columnist for The Roar, Parkes draws inspiration from his New Zealand roots for his compelling crime fiction. This event is a fantastic opportunity to meet the author and gain insight into his writing process and latest work.

About the Book: The First Law of the Bush

Set against the backdrop of 1990s rural New Zealand, this gripping novel follows the determined widow Carol Dickerson as she seeks the truth behind her husband Bill’s mysterious death after he falls from a viaduct. Unsatisfied with the initial explanations, Carol enlists lawyer Ryan Bradley to investigate the possibilities of suicide, accident, or murder.

Their investigation quickly uncovers a community bound by silence. Carol and Ryan face significant obstacles, including an uncooperative employer, tight-lipped co-workers, and a secretive small town where nothing is quite what it seems. In this atmospheric noir, the wrong question comes at a deadly price.
