The Language of Seabirds

A sweet, tender middle-grade story of two boys finding first love with each other over a seaside summer.

Jeremy is not excited about the prospect of spending the summer with his dad and his uncle in a seaside cabin in Oregon. It's the first summer after his parents' divorce, and he hasn't exactly been seeking alone time with his dad. He doesn't have a choice, though, so he goes... and on his first day takes a walk on the beach and finds himself intrigued by a boy his age running by. Eventually, he and Runner Boy (Evan) meet -- and what starts out as friendship blooms into something neither boy is expecting... and also something both boys have been secretly hoping for.

About the author

Will Taylor

Will Taylor is a New York Times bestselling children’s author and all-around nerd. Born and raised in Seattle, he now lives in Wales surrounded by sheep, and when not writing can be found searching for the perfect bakery and completely losing his cool when he meets longhaired dachshunds.

His books include the Revved series, The School for Wicked Witches series, the Washington State Book Award–winning The Language of Seabirds, Maggie & Abby’s Neverending Pillow Fort, Maggie & Abby and the Shipwreck Treehouse, Slimed (writing as Liam Gray), and Catch That Dog!

Sophia Sala is an illustrator born and raised in Annapolis, Maryland. She studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, and during her time there, she fell relentlessly in love with the high-octane worlds of F1 and IndyCar. While the Revved series is her publishing debut, her artwork has previously been featured by numerous motorsport teams and organizations, including Oracle Red Bull Racing, F1 Academy, Arrow McLaren, and the NTT IndyCar Series. She is excited to keep drawing fast cars and fun characters far into the future. When she’s not working, you can probably find her reading a good book, running outside, or going on adventures with her friends.

Praise for The Language of Seabirds

Praise for The Language of Seabirds:
"Earnestly told...Via a leisurely third-person narration that effectively conjures the agony of first texts and the emotional awkwardness of adolescence, Taylor writes with vulnerability the conflict of being in-between."--Publishers Weekly, starred review

"A wonderful, tender story about changing relationships."--Kirkus, starred review
