About the author

Jose Elvin Bueno

Jose Elvin Bueno is a Filipino-American fictionist, playwright, and novelist. He was the recipient of the Grand Prize in the 63rd Palanca Awards for Literature for his novel of Subversivo, Inc. He currently lives in New York.

Praise for Sindicato & Co.

Following through on the success of his first novel Subversivo, Inc., Palanca Grand Prize Winner Jose Elvin Bueno now leads us on a madcap romp into the twists and turns of contemporary Philippine politics, employing a cast of thoroughly familiar characters and situations but investing them with an absurd grandeur. This is political melodrama at its riotous best, exhilaratingly comic if not for its underlying fidelity to many of our saddest truths. As it races on to its titanic climax, Sindicato & Co. also provides us with another way-perhaps the only truly effective way-to tell the story of the Pinoy today

Jose Dalisay Jr., author of Penmanship and Other Stories, Soledad’s Sister (A Novel), and Voyager and Other Fictions

Set against the real-life backdrop of the worst excesses of current Philippine politics, Jose Elvin Bueno presents a tautly written thriller revolving around a slain periodista's dangerous discovery, involving the most powerful and dangerous men of the country. As the situation escalates in both the real world and the digital realm, Sindicato & Co.'s fiercely imagined and nuanced cast of characters find themselves on an inevitable collision course that will rock the nation. Bueno tells his gripping story with confidence, finesse, and an easy grace.

Dean Francis Alfar, author of The Kite of Stars and Other Stories, Salamanca (A Novel), and A Field Guide to Manila and Other Stories

Jose Elvin Bueno blurs the lines between conspiracy theories and elusive truths in this riveting satirical thriller. Hilariously agitating!
