About the authors

Gertrude Crampton

Gertrude Crampton (1909-1996) wrote the beloved classic Little Golden Books Tootle (published in 1945) and Scuffy the Tugboat (published in 1946), both of which have never been out of print. Crampton was born in New York in 1909, and studied at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She died in 1996.

Margaret Wise Brown

Margaret Wise Brown (1910–1952), best known as the author of Goodnight Moon, wrote countless children’s books inspired by her belief that the very young are fascinated by the simple pleasures of the world around them. Among her many bestselling books are The Little Island, The Golden Egg Book, The Color Kittens, and The Sailor Dog.
