About the author

Lynley Dodd

Lynley Dodd graduated from the Elam School of Art in Auckland with a diploma in Fine Arts, majoring in sculpture. She went on to teach art before taking a break to start a family. She began to work as a freelance illustrator and collaborated with author Eve Sutton on My Cat Likes To Hide in Boxes. There was no looking back as Lynley went on to write and illustrate her own books for children. Exuberant artwork and bouncy rhymes come together perfectly in books like Slinky Malinki and Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy. As well as being a visual delight, these are some of the most rewarding books for children and adults to read out loud. It comes as no surprise that, as a child, she adored Dr Seuss because of his 'crazy sounds and the fact that he took such liberties with the English language.' Other favourite authors included A A Milne and the fairy tales of The Grimm Brothers and Hans Christian Andersen. Today, Lynley is a big fan of Quentin Blake 'because of his humour and very clever art work.'

Praise for Hedgehog Howdedo

...this book rollicks along, rhyming and counting, with pictures crammed with hedgehogs (spot the cat on most pages) all hibernating away while a little girl ponders the impending traffic jam in spring.

Dinah, Children's book review

This gem of a book has everything we have come to expect from a Lynley Dodd book. It will bring adults back to their childhoods and introduce young readers to the delights of Lynley Dodd’s brilliant story-telling. The text is sparse and perfectly targeted for the young reader. It contains her playful alliteration and parcels everything up in lilting melody. There is also her whimsical imagination – have you ever heard of a pizza plant before or dreamed about the noise of windywhistle grass? ...The illustrations and gentle pace will lull young readers into a peaceful slumber with a smile on their face.

Sara Croft, The Reader

A board book just for little hands, Hedgehog Howdedo is a delightful wee read in rhyme.

Colleen Thorpe, Hawke's Bay Today

A very sweet book about hedgehogs. It includes counting in ones up to eight and talks briefly about seasons (winter and spring). The book also makes reference to the fact that some animals, in this case hedgehogs, hibernate during winter.

Harriet Jane Mitchell, Good Reads

Great book for children learning to count.

Cai, Good Reads

Julie, Good Reads
