Ted loved his time on Gone Fishing, but knew it couldn’t last forever. Ever practical, he wanted to be fully prepared for the gap it was going to leave in his life. It wasn’t just about keeping his mind and body busy. He wanted to be useful.

With fluctuating degrees of success, he investigates working for the military, delivering post for Royal Mail, helping out at a care home and volunteering at the animal shelter which rescued him when he was abandoned as a puppy.

But Ted’s story does not end there. Following his sad departure from this world, he finds himself in heaven, where retirement turns out to be rather busier than expected. Reuniting with old friends, Ted discovers there are still plans to make, opinions to share and plenty of nonsense that simply will not be tolerated.

Dogs and humans may age at different paces, but the undeniable truth is that none of us are getting any younger. Following Ted’s example, we can all learn how to embrace the future, accept new challenges, and treasure the time we have.
