About the author

Marc Brown

Marc Brown sampled several careers before he became the creator of that adorable aardvark, Arthur. He drove a flower-delivery truck, taught art and was a TV art director until the moment, 21 years ago, when he was putting his four-year-old son Tolon to bed. 'Tell me a story about a weird animal', Tolon asked, and Arthur, his naughty sister D. W., and the rest of their family came to life. Marc hasn't had to look too far for inspiration for his aardvark's antics as many of the characteristics and stories are grounded firmly in reality. Marc Brown says of Arthur: 'he's a lot like I was in the third grade, and like my sons ... and my daughter'. Since the first title in 1976, over ten million books have been sold and Arthur has his own TV series.
