Richard Osman’s whirlwind Australia tour was a smashing success

In just four and a half days, the international bestselling author won the hearts of Australian readers.

Earlier this month, Richard Osman spent just over four days in Australia for events, interviews and to promote the latest book in his Thursday Murder Club series, The Last Devil to Die.

To say that his schedule was jam-packed would be an understatement. During his brief visit, the author held four sold-out events, two intimate gatherings and appeared in a wide range of Australian media.

One lucky subscriber to our Read More newsletter even won the opportunity to meet the author and have his book signed. ‘We thoroughly enjoyed the night!’, said the winner Alan, accompanied by his partner Val.

With a background in television, it’s clear Osman is a pro on the media circuit. Somehow, he managed four TV appearances, ten radio spots and four written interviews to talk about his beloved book series with readers across Australia.

To make him feel at home, Osman was welcomed with advertisements for his books splashed across Sydney airport’s international terminal and on screens at Westfield shopping centres.

In addition to the sold-out shows, an uptick in Osman’s book sales speaks to how much Australia embraced his quick trip. Compared to the previous week, his sales nearly doubled while he was in Australia – a testament to our excitement, as much as concrete proof of his ability to make fans out of everyone he meets.

Luckily for us, Osman seems to be a fan of Australia too. A photo of the author signing countless copies of his latest book, he wrote ‘My parting gift after the most wonderful week in Australia. Number 1 and a million copies sold! I will be back to see you all again!’
