Write It Fellowship 2021 now open

We’re thrilled to announce that the 2021 Penguin Random House Australia (PRHA) Write It Fellowship is open for submissions.

Since launching in 2018, Write It has allowed us to find and nurture unpublished writers across all genres, with a focus on under-represented sections of our community. It’s an opportunity for writers from a marginalised backgrounds – LGBTQI+, Indigenous or CALD (culturally and linguistically diverse) writers and writers with a disability – to be mentored by PRH editors, develop their unique voices and share their perspectives.

Ayesha Inoon, 2019 Write It recipient, commented, ‘To be selected for the Write It Fellowship was an extraordinary experience. As a new immigrant in Australia, it made me feel like my voice mattered, that what I had to say as a writer was important… Sometimes you need someone to believe in you, to give you the confidence to reach for your dream – and that’s what Write It has done for me.’

As part of the fellowship, winners are also invited to participate in a PRHA Open House Day, during which they have the opportunity to learn about the various facets of publishing: acquiring, editing, marketing, publicising and selling a book.

To date, the Write It fellowship received an incredible number of submissions, exploring an array of themes and genres, across both adult and young readers age groups. This year, we’re adding a consultant from a diverse background to the judging panel to broaden the scope of the application assessment process.

The fellowship is open to writers who have not previously had a book published, and submissions will be open from TODAY, Tuesday 6 October until 11:59pm AEST Sunday 15 November 2020. Find all the entry details here.

A shortlist will be revealed on 1 February 2021, with the winner announced on the week commencing 3 May 2021.
