About the authors

Sally Rippin

Sally Rippin was born in Darwin, but grew up mainly in South-East Asia. As a young adult she lived in China for three years, studying traditional Chinese painting. Sally has over seventy books published, many of them award-winning, including two novels for young adults. Her work includes the highly acclaimed Polly and Buster trilogy and the popular Billie B Brown and Hey Jack! books, which became the highest selling series for 6-8 year olds in Australia within the first year of their release. Sally is Australia’s highest selling female author and her books have sold more than 4.5 million copies in 14 languages.

Sally is a popular presenter in schools and at literary festivals both in Australia and overseas and has a regular program on 3RRR interviewing children’s authors and industry professionals. Recently, she and Kids WB producer, Adrian Beck, have collaborated on a video series called the KidLit Club, which airs fortnightly.

Adrian Beck

Adrian Beck writes funny, action-packed stories for kids. He is the author of the Derek Dool series, the Champion Charlies series, the Alien Zoo series and the co-author of the Little Legends series with Nicole Hayes, plus the Kick it to Nick series with AFL hall-of-famer Shane Crawford. Together with Sally Rippin, Adrian edited the Total Quack Up! and Total Quack Up Again! collections of short stories to raise money for Dymocks Children’s Charities. As well as being an author, Adrian is a TV producer and a lover of very bad dad jokes. Adrian draws on his showbiz roots to create engaging, interactive school presentations and is passionate about fostering a love of reading among the next generation.

Praise for Total Quack Up!

Criminal cats, superheroes, pigs dressed in footy gear, crazy robots, hippos who love the beach and birthday parties that end in disaster are all features of this collection of short stories designed for younger independent readers who not only like funny stories but also still need a little support as their reading skills develop.

Barbara Braxton, The Bottom Shelf blog

Slapstick antics, gross body humour and plenty of silliness make each story just right to read aloud, to share with a family or middle primary class.

Rhyllis Bignell, ReadPlus

Total Quack Up is an easy to read collection of stories that will make you smile, produce a chuckle or two and maybe even a laugh. All the while, helping kids through books. What could be better?

Vicki Thornton, Magpies Magazine

It’s the ideal pick-up and put down book for junior readers - especially the reluctant ones. The titles are crazy-funny, and reflect what’s to follow. But be prepared to be surprised!

Kids' Book Review

Kids love humorous stories and when you consider humour for the mid to upper primary school years you are most likely imagining stories involving toilets, bums, and other scenarios relating to the underpants area. Total Quack Up! delivers this and more with other sure-to-please stories about adults getting embarrassed, anthropomorphic pigs, and kids creating awkward and dangerous situations for themselves.
