National Geographic Little Kids First Big Book of How

The next book in the hit Little Kids First Big Book series explains to preschoolers how the things in their everyday life work! Sure to be a hit in the same fashion as the Little Kids First Big Book of Why.

This charming reference book answers questions kids ask every day, taking a closer look at the things that surround them and how they work—from cars to vacuum cleaners, storms to seasons, animal bodies to humans. More than 100 colorful photos are paired with age-appropriate text featuring answers to questions like "How do chameleons change color?" "How do refrigerators stay cold?" "How do tornadoes form?" "How do submarines stay underwater?" "How does food get to the grocery store?" and "How does my body heal?" This book helps parents share fascinating, accurate answers, and inspires kids to be curious, ask questions, and explore the world around them. Games and parent tips encourage interactivity and extend the experience of the book beyond its pages.

About the author

Jill Esbaum

Jill Esbaum lives on a farm, on a dusty gravel road, where green walls of rustling corn surround the yard each summer. She and her husband raise corn, soybeans, and hundreds of pigs. A dozen cats hang around the back door each evening, waiting for her to slip out with leftovers (a dangerous time to go barefoot, she says!). Her favourite season is autumn, when she gets to drive a huge, complicated tractor through crackling fields to help with the harvest under a blue, blue sky. And every day she wakes up feeling blessed, knowing how lucky she is to spend part of each day doing what she loves, and loving what she does - writing for kids.
