A brand new novel from the bestselling author Katie Flynn. This is book one in her brilliant series about a young girl trying to make her way in war-torn Liverpool.

Liverpool, August 1940

As the Luftwaffe turns its attention to Liverpool, Shane Quinn decides to move his family back to the safety of Ireland. But his only child, the beautiful Dana, refuses point blank. She would rather stay and serve her country than flee to a foreign land.

Determined to make it on her own and defy her father’s wishes, she heads to the city, only to have the door slammed in her face over and over again. Lonely and exhausted, she finally reaches the last lodging house on Staple Row. A young girl named Patty answers the door and much to Dana’s relief, she is invited in. They quickly become firm friends and together they join the WAAF. It is here where they meet girls from all walks of life - some kind, while others downright rude.

So begins a journey through the hardships of war where both girls will need their friendship more than ever. And when Dana discovers a terrible secret about her past, she will realise just how important family is too…

About the Author

Katie Flynn

Katie Flynn lived for many years in the north-west. A compulsive writer, she started with short stories and articles and many of her early stories were broadcast on Radio Merseyside. She decided to write her Liverpool series after hearing the reminiscences of family members about life in the city in the early years of the twentieth century. She also wrote as Judith Saxton. For the last few years of her life, she had to cope with ME but continued to write with the help of her daughter, Holly Flynn. Sadly, Katie passed away on 1 January 2019, but had already begun working with Holly on upcoming books, which will be published in 2019 and beyond.
