Gillian Rubinstein emigrated to Australia from England in 1973. Her first novel, Space Demons, was published in 1986 and since then she has written over 30 critically acclaimed books for children. Her awards include the Children's Book Council of Australia Book of the Year Award for Beyond the Labyrinth in 1989, and a CBC Honour Book Award for Galax-Arena in 1993. Sharon, keep your hair on (Random House), illustrated by David Mackintosh, was shortlisted for the CBC Picture Book of the Year Awards in 1997. Answers to Brut won the New South Wales Premier's Award and Space Demons was awarded the YABBA Award (a Children's Choice award).
