Novel Selection Assistance

Are you tired of using the same novel in the classroom? Looking to replace a text but unsure of where to look? Perhaps we can help…

To assist you in making novel selection decisions, or just to let you know what is available, a Penguin Educational Consultant can meet with you to discuss a range of books suitable for use in the classroom.

Novel Selection meetings usually take an hour of your time, and in that hour you will be able to look through many books that are proving themselves to be perfectly suited to the classroom.

A consultant will give you a detailed description of each book, including such points as key themes and issues, character structure, language, appropriateness for age levels, and a general outline of the plot. You will also be given a range of teacher resources, including catalogues, teachers' notes, novel selection lists and the like.

These meetings can be one-on-one with the English Co-ordinator or Librarian, or they can take place during a faculty meeting, where a Consultant will speak to the entire faculty.

Here is just some of the feedback we have received from other meetings around the country:

"Very worthwhile. Great time-saver for us – able to make choices and encourages me to update class novels more regularly (and with minimal stress)."
Jody Dimond, Good Shepherd College

"An excellent resource … concise, relevant and to the point".
Elizabeth Stevens, Danebank School

"Extremely helpful and knowledgeable about all the materials presented".
Pat Aller, Cardijn College

"Valuable, productive and informative".
Tanya Roet, De La Salle
