Judith Clarke was born and educated in Sydney. She now lives in Melbourne with her husband and son. Judith has worked as a teacher, librarian, and lecturer. In 1995, Judith's YA novel, Friend of My Heart, was shortlisted for the Children's Book Council Book of the Year Awards (Older Readers) and was also highly acclaimed in the United States. In 1995, The Big Night Out and Panic Stations, a collection of short stories, were also published. Judith's Al Capsella novels - The Heroic Life of Al Capsella, Al Capsella and the Watchdogs and Al Capsella on Holidays - and her collection of supernatural stories, The Boy on the Lake, have been published in America. The Heroic Life of Al Capsella was included in the American Library Association Best Books for Young Adults list (1990), and was shortlisted for the NSW Premier's Literary Awards (1988). Al Capsella and the Watchdogs was shortlisted for the same award in 1990, and won the Variety Club Young People's Talking Book of the Year Award (1991).
