Chapter One
Sasha lived in the twisty trees of Grotty Hollow. She lived there with her mother and father, her sisters, Hissy and Grissy, and all the other Grotty Hollow monsters.
Grotty Hollow was still and quiet in the early morning. It was Sasha's favourite part of the day. Once the other monsters woke up, it became far too noisy.
Father monster yawned and stretched. 'It's a fine morning for a rumble,' he said.
He swung out of his tree and jumped on top of Hissy.
Hissy woke up, grabbed Grissy by her tail and flipped her over.
Mother Monster bounced on all of them.
They roared with laughter.
'Come and rumble with us, Sasha,' said Mother Monster.
'No thanks,' said Sahsha. 'I'm going to Granddad's for flute practice.'
'You're strange, Sasha,' said Hissy.
'So very strange,' agreed Grissy.
Sasha shrugged. She didn't care.
Most Grotty Hollow monsters were loud and rough. They grunted and growled. They roared and howled.
But not Sasha.
Sasha was different. And she liked it that way.
