Gerald Cunningham lives with his wife Susan in their 93-year-old mudbrick villa at Lauder in Central Otago. He retired in 2001 at the age of 55 to follow other interests, which include writing, photography, playing golf, fly fishing, wearing loud shirts, riding his motorcycle and collecting antique furniture - as well as just loafing.

2015 Folio Prize longlist
The longlist for the 2015 Folio Prize includes three titles originated by Penguin Books Australia. These are The Night Guest by Fiona McFarlane, Amnesia by Peter Carey and Eyrie by Tim Winton.
